Just how useful is Twitter?

Before some colleagues shout ‘VERY’ at the top of their lungs, I just would like to point out a few things.

Firstly I enjoy Twitter, I have very few followers and follow even less and while I have been a little slow in jumping on the bandwagon, I could instantly see the benefits of following some interesting people. For instance, Dave Daurte often tweets on conferences he attends and usually (pretty much always) has very interesting items popping up.

As a remote-officing tool I think Twitter is brilliant (as long as the information isn’t sensitive). I have even seen how people can find out where someone is via twitter.

As for in-house advertising I think Twitter can be a real benefit. With very little imagination you could see how you could pair job seekers with available jobs.

So are there any drawbacks? Yup, one can quickly determine that by following too many people you will have a few too many updates to be useful. Another is that it can be kind of addictive. Far worse than Facebook updates - you can spend a lot of time adding to your twitter feed.

I would love to get some feedback to see what others think of twitter (and of Twhirl and Twitterfox for that matter).
