We have all seen the drop in circulation numbers of newspapers and magazines for a while now and now WWD has published an in-depth article on the drop in magazine sales with some very interesting figures showing how sales have dropped in some areas by up to 40%!
In the newspaper game the LA Times has stated that it has 127 million page views a month with more than 19 million unique visitors in July. It is amazing how an already struggling print market can embrace the available technology and come out still doing well.
Finally in the book section it is not so much print-versus-electronic as it is how you sell the books. Amazon showed growth of 23% from ‘06 - ‘07 while Barnes&Noble only rose 4% and Borders/Waldenbooks had zero growth. I would be interested to see total book sales year-on-year to see growth and whether it is slower than market growth… (thanks to fonerbooks for the stats)
